Volvo is a Swedish builder of vehicles, trucks, buses, and construction equipment.  In 1999, Volvo sold its car division to Ford Motor Company, which in turn sold it to Chinese motor manufacturer Geely Automotive in 2010.  Volvo Trucks remains part of the Volvo Group.
 

Geely Automotive, which owns Volvo's car division, is one of several Chinese automakers producing and selling cars in Iran.[1]  Iran is among their largest foreign markets.[2] 

Volvo began exporting trucks to Iran more than 70 years ago. And in 2000, Volvo Truck Corporation signed a partnership with Saipa Diesel for domestic production of trucks.[3]  Saipa Diesel’s Tehran-based plant is listed on the Volvo Trucks’ website[4] and the Volvo Group maintains a gateway for Iranian customers on their corporate website.[5]  There are 18 Volvo Truck dealers in Iran according to the company’s website.[6]

In Fiscal Year 2011, the Volvo Group held 26 contracts valued at over $18.5 million with the U.S. Department of Defense.[7]  In 2011, Volvo also won a federal contract valued at $19 million to improve the energy efficiency of heavy duty trucks.[8]
